:)Went to Lowe's bought a piece of 3/8ths solid aluminum rod sanded it down until it fit the ramrod thimble and hollowed out the end to fit my bullets. Knurled the other end. I drilled a shallow hole in my short starter to fit the end to push with. Easier on the hand.

If you need one immediately and have nothing available locally, go to Wally World and get a 3 piece Outers Universal All Gauge Shotgun Cleaning Rod. Loc-tite the middle section and the bottom section together. This will give you an aluminum rod about 22-1/2 inches long (just a tad longer than the Savage barrel. I've had no trouble seating seat both SST's and XTP's with the ones I use. For cleaning I screw the top section on to make a full length rod and use shotgun brushes and swabs.
I started using one of these when I bought my first 10ML in late 2000 because nothing was available locally. I'm still using it and bought another one just like it for my second Savage. Initially, I used a short starter with a hole drilled in the round knob to fit the end of the rod and save my palm.
Eventually, I had a machinist buddy cut and rethread the rods so they are a little shorter than the Savage barrels. Later yet, I cut off and modified the top section ( the part with the tee handle) to serve as a short starter/palm saver.

A power rod makes all the difference in the world. It was a challenge to load with the factory rod, but I have seen the light. My factory rod is now a cleaning rod only.

Guys,
I am also ordering a Power Rod from xssights. I also e-mailed them about sanding off the black finish on the rod to match the stainless barrel on my MLBSS-II. The guy said that the reason that they have the black anodized finish is to procect the rod from the corrosive

Sorry guys. I hit post by accident Anyway, he said that the reason that they have the black finish is to protect the rod from the corrosive effects of black powder. He also said that it is fine to sand the finish off to match the stainless barrel. So now we can have the best of both worlds. Great ramrod and great looks too. black3

black 3, don't know what industry you have near you but in my area we have several metal finishing shops. Most of these places could take the bare aluminum rod and strip the black anodizing off then redo it in clear anodizing, some will even do it in mat or polished. If you know a machinist some of them will know of a metal finisher in your area. And now that I have seen how it looks I think I will be get one made up also. KS

KS, Thanks for the tip. I'll check around to see what is available. I don't mind a little elbow grease, but to get a clear anodized finish would be nice. black3
