Went by the gun shop this morning and was very surprized to see this savage(pic below) Couldn't find out much about it but the owner of the shop said that the fellow had just cleaned the rifle and was shooting 44 grs of IMR 4759(don't know if it was the old lot or new lot in the plastic jug)and a 250 sst.Said the fellow shooting it was not hurt and he was sending it back to savage for him. If I get any more details I will post them or maybe Joe will comment on it after he gets it back,I think he reads this board some.I have only heard about 2 like this toby's and this one.

Looks like a barrel obstruction at the widest part of the barrel split.
Bullet/sabot not seated? or double loaded bullet/sabot.

I forwarded the link to Joe.
I don't think that we will hear something publicly for a while. I suspect they will need to do some thorough testing.

Defiantly a pressure burst centering right at the rear sight screw hole. Hard to say what happened without closer inspection, being there and knowing some history. Hopefully Savage will investigate it fully as I suspect they will.
I am not worried. Since the TB incident I inspect closely and after almost 8 years my loading routine I still watch carefully not trusting it to habit.
It will be interesting to see what TB does if he finds out. I don't think you can blame this one on the breechplug design. Maybe a new online feud between TB and RW, I miss the saga of Really Weird.

Edge, Thanks for the 'forward'. I’m not sure I agree with taking a photo of someone else’s firearm at a Sporting Goods store and then posting it on a forum without their knowledge. To me, this is a matter of individual privacy – which I have always respected. joe ...

Yes the Battle of the Blown Barrel kept things quite interesting for a while, a little too much excitement for me.

Show me any model of firearm that someone hasn't blown up either by accident or intentionally! In my opinion this doesn't say anything at all about the safety of the Savage. You can take the safest rifle in the world (Savage 10MLII?) and if you give it enough time, someone will do something extreme enough to blow up a barrel. Just the fact that this barrel was destroyed so completely and the shooter wasn't injured tells me a lot about the safety of the rifle. I am confident that there was some sort of obstruction at the point that everyone has indicated. What the obstruction was will probably never be known unless the owner confesses to the accident. I have no doubt that Joe and Savage in general will still make good on a new barrel or complete new rifle anyway. Sure wish we could eventually know the truth about what really caused this and i bet it wasn't a faulty firearm!

I also notice that there is no barrel nut on that rifle. I assume it might have split and fell off when the barrel burst? Curiouser and curiouser!

I should have written this first.
Please let's not start the Speculation/Blame game. I don't think that anyone that was here for the last problem wants to see a repeat!
This not locked, but please keep this thread free from opinions.

Yeah this is not a good post. Any gun can and will be blown up if in enough peoples hands. Any gun safety course will give plenty of examples of all of the most popular guns.
This gun truely is overbuilt in design and the safest muzzleloader out there in my humble opinion.

Well then you might as well go ahead and lock this thread! The owner isn't likely to tell what really happened if he wants Savage to replace the gun, and it looks like that is what he wants. Savage isn't likely to tell us what happened due to privacy as Joe indicated. What does that leave? Opinions! Maybe you should just delete the whole thread and act like it never happened............
