;DRecently I mentioned returning a breech plug to Mark that I had been using in my own rifle.
I actually had three inserts to try in the plug but as time and my own disorganized schedule would have I only used one of them extensively.
The plug I used was quite different than the normal 10-ML style. It used a pressed in vent liner with two vent holes. The construction material was (I believe) carbide. And I shot a total of 286 shot while it was in my 10-ML.
I thought I'd give my idea of what I think of the plug in three categories.
Longevity: After 286 shots I can't tell (or even measure) a difference from day I first shot it. I will admit I don't see me being able to shoot it to a lifetime without much longer time to test.
Ignition: I like the two liner hole for positive ignition. When we were going over the three hole saga Doug stated several times that he thought a 2 hole liner might be the best of both worlds. Even though I didn't have the insight then I now think that Doug is a pretty sharp dude.
Accuracy: The rifle I used during the test is not the most accurate 10-ML I've had but still accuracy was as good as the normal plug with almost every load shot. I will admit I didn't push too much in this area, as I wanted to shoot loads somewhat like the average shooter would use rather than adjust for just the plug.
I would like to post a drawing of the plug but I don't have one on my disk drive currently. However I would say that Mark has used a good deal of innovation with this plug. The only thing that I would say negative is there is not a ready supply we all might try. If one wants to try it he's in a pickle for the average shooter would be dependent on a supply as the design is too complex to just role your own.
