I know Precision Rifle has been doing Rem700 ML conversions for awhile now. I've been curious if it would work to use a .40cal barrel of say the standar 1:12-1:16 twist to shoot standard .357 rifle bullets, which are higher BC than the ML offerings. I'd rather do a sabot to .338 but there are already ML sabots for .40-.357 easily available.
I'm not hooked on going smokeless, so I think it'd be relatively easy to make a breech plug to use shortened short-action cases for ignition. What do you think?

Sir, I respectfully, why not use the full calibrer of the bore size, cast your own and shoot conical bullets?Maybe a BPCR type bullet?

I had a limited success with a cut down .410 shotshell wad in my .40cal RB rifle using a .357 pistol bullet. Sabot arrangement. Didn't put too much time into it but the wad and bullet fitted nice and snug.
