I took the barrel off my CZ- 550 American .308 and this steel ring fell out. Upon closer examination, I found that it belonged in a hole in the wood stock, between the head one of the action screws, and the action. I realized pretty quickly that it was functioning as a pillar. I looked at the wood under the action near this cylinder and saw that there were no indentations from the action. I concluded that two small cylinders of steel were taking up most or all the stress between the action and the stock, in a gun that is known for it's accuracy. We have had a lot of discussion about pillars on the Savage site, and this reinforces the notion that there are a lot of options out there. I will be keeping my eyes open for new ideas anyway. Maybe this was interesting to some, maybe not. Pete

I will take metal to metal to metal any day over metal to wood to metal. I have not seen a factory gunstock that does not need a proper bedding job done even if its pillar bedded from the factory.
