I bought a can of Accurate 5744 yesterday but when I got home I noticed that the owners manual listed it as XMP-5744. Their website only lists 5744 w/o the XMP so my thought was that it's the correct powder for the Savage.

I THINK that they just renamed XMP-5744 to 5744, I do not KNOW that they did this however. www.accuratearms.com would answer your question or give you a contact that could. -bubba

;DThis powder has a duel personality. Because some used it in pistols it acquired the disignation XMP with the X meaning extruded, P meaning pistol, the M was supposedly metalic case.
So many people were also loading it in their cowboy action rifle loads it was then XMR 5744 with the R meaning rifle. In fact in one guise I have a can of this powder that has XMP on one side and XMR on the other.
No matter even though Accurate is now a part of Ramshot it's all 5744 and it is the only powder made by any source with that discription.
