Howdy fellas,.... I'm new here, but I recognize some familiar names. Some of the fellas thet know me, also know thet ther is a new national Traditional Muzzleloading Association (TMA) being formed. We have been working fer a few weeks put'n this new association together, along with the TMA's "definition" of traditional. It was the TMA's final decision to define "traditional" by adopt'n the follow'n,.... .......The TMA defines "Traditional Muzzleloaders" as those being simular in design, function, and materials used in their constuction, prior to the year 1900.,..... This will also include "traditional style" projectiles deemed as proper for a particular muzzleloader's "place" in history prior to 1900. Of course this means NO "conicals" in rifles thet weren't originaly "designed" for them in TMA sponsored events, however, what projectiles fellas choose to shoot on ther "own time" is left up to the individual. Thet is all I can say at this time in regards to the TMA, except we really pulled some of our hair out debate'n the "traditional" definition. YMHS rollingb

Looks like a flinter "in the white" to me, if it had iron sights and a wood stock!! YMHS rollingb

Seeing the stainless Flint lock assembly reminds me of a conversion I made...I took a TC Hawken 'Cougar' caplock which has stainless furniture and a presentation grade walnut stock, swapped a 1:66" Flint round ball barrel into it, added a stainless Flint lock assembly that goes on the Firestorm, and created a gorgeous .45cal 'Cougar' Flintlock...have taken a few deer with it now...beautiful rifle

I thought that chromed barrels and rubber recoil pads and Maxiballs were Traditional....I will be interesting as to how the interpretation of the TMA definition shakes out in reguards to the production guns that are the mainstay of the ML shooting world, I think the 1900 date probably opened the door to just about anything....they might have put a '98 Mauser sight on an old flintlock ..... so modern type adjustable a sights are traditional... I can see it now.... I really think trying to set up a truly traditional forum or group is an effort in futility.

I thought that chromed barrels and rubber recoil pads and Maxiballs were Traditional.... Yore "kidding" of course,.... right?? Actually only the "old flintlock's" original sight would be considered traditional,.... as I don't recall any "documented" '98 Mauser muzzleloaders. ..... and "NO",.... 98% of today's modern adjustable sights are "NOT" considered traditional. Sights must "conform" to those of the time period in which each traditional weapon (style) is represented. Some of us are give'n it our best shot, and we feel our efforts can only help promote traditional muzzleloaders in the "long run"!! YMHS rollingb

I don't really think that rules are even needed to know what traditional is. It is no secret, we all know what it is. Anyone trying to say or do otherwise is simply trying to skirt the intent. Pick up any book or magazine that has original guns in them and you can see for yourself.

Much of the old stuff is better anyway. No offense, I own Mausers and Mosin-Nagants and Winchesters.... and I know full well that if ol' Danny Boon had his choice of taking on a bear with his ML or a slick 98K, my money is on the 98k. Not my point...
Anyway, what I'm getting at is when I was green and knew nothing about ML'ing other than what was in gun mags, I got sold on FO sights and plastic RR's too. Come to find out that the FO sights are more of a problem than a help most of the time. Adjustable sights are a waste of time beyond initial sight-in. I still don't care for a wooden stick, I will admit to liking AL or brass much better and shiny brass really looks nice too. Rubber butt plate, does nothing for me except catch on my clothes and be yet another "moderization" problem.
I'll be keeping my adjustable sights on my 91/30 since I don't forsee me needing to adjust my ML sights for a 500 or 1000 yard shot anytime in the near future. BUT... that's not saying the front blade shape and rear groove on my .62 flinter sights won't look strangely familiar when viewing from the shooters position.
