This is a letter opener I just finished for a feller. It is a Warthog tusk from a hog a guy shot in Africa. It is the upper right tusk & about 1/2 way down you can see where it ground against the bottom large tusk. This upper tusk was 6 3/4" long & has the tip broken off . The bottom was too big & curled to use at 11" long. The blade is polished 440C SS and a G.Silver guard & pin. The enamel is really hard to drill, once ya get thru the enamel it is like drilling bone. I made 2 letter openers when doing this, this one and a deer antler one. I stuck myself 7 times just polishing the dang blades ! I told my wife if I did a dozen of them all together, I would need a blood transfusion to finish them !! ha ha ! www.custommuzzleloaders.com

How pretty. Did you keep the deer handled letter opener or were you afraid you'd need that transfusion?

Thank you. I haven't delivered either of them, but the guy that I made the tusk opener for also bought the deer antlered one. He also bought a knife for himself (delivered) and 2 knives for his sons that I have finished & have to make the sheaths for yet. Here is the antler opener. It was made off a spike antler a guy gave me.

This is the pair of knives I made for his sons. They are from deer they have killed when hunting together & each has the sons initials engraved on the butt caps. He is going to give them to the boys at X-mas. I will probably make the sheaths this week as soon as a shipment of new leather to arrive. Blades are flat bevel ground ATS-34, hardened/tempered to 59-60 Rc, -305 deg. Cyro Quenched, then polished & buff blasted. Handles are German Silver guard, black water buffalo slab, deer antler, German Silver buttplate & a Mosiac retaining pin. /i]

As I was working on the 2 above, I decided to make one for myself for a change (til someone talks me out of it). This is a new blade design for me & I am quite pleased with the results. It is a 4 3/8" long blade x 1 3/8" x 1/8, flat bevel ground ATS-34 steel, hardened-tempered to 59-60 Rc then a -305 Cyro Quench. Handles is brass, black buffalo horn, brass, deer antler & retained with a Mosiac pin. I have yet to engrave the base of the antler. www.custommuzzleloaders.com
