Jack, the salt lick has been there for about 7 years, I put it out when I bought the place. It is under 2 persimmon trees one of which I had a Moultrie feeder hanging from for 2-3 years until the hanging limb gave way. I moved the feeder about 20 yds to the other side of the opening. I also throw out extra shell corn, apples, and whatever else I want to try out to get the critters to hopefully pose. One of my tree stands is just above the corn feeder and about 25 yds from the lick. I also have a few acres of food plots on both sides of this opening so this isn't a bait only deal. It is legal in KY to bait for deer but grain and corn feeders have to be removed 30 days prior to any turkey season. The turkeys are all over the food plots anyway so it really doesn't make any difference during those seasons. The deer much prefer just the plain salt, this year I have mixed some Vita-Rack in the soil also although I really think it is wasted money. I have tried all sorts of Biologic and other brand food plot stuff, they work well but I sorta feel they are also wasted money, just plain field corn, covercrop wheat, sorghum grain seed, soybeans and blackoil sunflowers all very cheap do just as well in my experience. By the way you have to have a '49 Ford Tractor to get all this planted correctly. and also hold your mouth just right.
