This is a pic of my son's first Mule Deer taken last December. He took it with a Thompson Black Diamond at about 85 yards. The rack on this buck isn't real wide but had very good height. He was tickled pink. Oh it was a 6X7. Jack

JACKJR60, that is a great picture! It reminds me of some of the pictures and memories I have had for many years past and am fortunate to still be taking with my Dad, I'm 50 and he's 75. For sure you look like a proud papa just like my dad although he is usually the one holding up the harvested critter. Go figure, some of us younger generation still have a lot to learn. Those mule deer racks are great looking for mass and size compared to the common whitetails. No matter, any deer is a trophy in this type of situation because of the great positive experience. JACKJR60, I was a bit dissappointed though, I was thinking you should be holding a blunderbuss like the picture on your posts.

rdtimmjr, thank you for the kind words. Yes the most important aspect of hunting for me is the memories. My dad hunted with me for the last time in 2002. Man do I miss hunting with him. With the exception of my service years we hadn't missed a season since 1955. Now it is my son and me and not too far in the future a couple of grandsons. My granddaughter is a turkey hunter already. It sure is nice to look back at different hunts and fishing trips with your dad though, isn't it? Oh the blunderbuss is laying behind me. Jack ;D

Jay well as a matter of fact I was. What happened that morning was I set up in the dark and when it got just light enough to see I noticed I was about 20 feet from the fence line that I could not hunt across. Talk about feeling like a dummy. So I got up and just happened to see my son's Blaze Orange hat off in the distance. So I meandered over to him, sat down and about ten minutes later this buck came walking down the draw with 7 does. And bam and a cloud of smoke and one nice Muley on the ground. We did do a little high fivin'. My son had chosen this spot the day before because it had some really good sign. I had chosen my spot the day before because I'm really a moron. Jack ;D

Jay, well the day before I jsut glanced over to where I was gonna set up because there was a pond over there. Not many ponds in NW Kansas and Mule deer drink quite a bit, so I thought I was gonna be set real good. Didn't notice the fence ran right down the middle of the pond. Kansans do weird chit. Jack
