Jack,
That one takes on hogs head on, locks em' on the nose. He's nuts for sure. If you're human though you gotta watch out, he'll love you to death. ;D

Are those dogs all pit bulls? How do you rate them as far as around kids? I know they have a bad rap due to alot of people mistreating them and they turned on people. No surprise there, any dog has that potential.

The dog in the middle with the half white face is an English Bull/Airedale mix. The other two are brothers and they do have some Pitbull in them, Rednose to be exact but they have lab mixed in them also. Their taller and faster than a purebred rednose and not so heavy. Their still bruisers but they are like babies. If you sit down with them they'll come up to you and lick you in the face and start rubbing up against you for some affection. Turn em' loose on a hog and it's all over. Only the brindle needs to be pulled off a hog and tied so he can cool down. The rest of our dogs are for the most part easier to take off a hog.
I've seen Labs and Pointers that bite, it's all in the way you raise them. If you beat a dog, he will test kids and strangers. Pitbulls have a bad rap for sure, it's not just the way people treat them. It's the way people breed them. The people who use them in the arena for dog fighting have bred out the good traits to make them nasty. We put Lab and Airedale in them to mellow them out, make them quicker and give them more stamina for long distance running.
A lot of the horror stories about the bull breeds have the same scenarios. Abuse by owners, tied on a chain with no excercise or attention, people walking by taunting the dog, etc. For a family pet, I'd rather go with Labs or a smaller dog, the odds are better but as you said, any dog has the potential to turn on an owner or a child. Be nice to them and they'll return the favor.

Jay, my stepson has a full bred Pit Bull and I know she has the ability to take a chunk out of me but she is just a big overgrown baby.
Jack ;D
