Squirrel hunting isn't just something I do. It is something I must do. My Father was a squirrel hunter and he passed the passion to me. The gun is a Pecatonica precarve T/C Hawken with a fistfull of modifications. The lock is a L&R RPL, the barrel a Green Mountain 32, the front sight is a subtle green fiber optic, the rear sight is a homemade peep. The homemade peep is hidden behind the cock. The tang sight seen in the picture is used for some longer range target work. The load of choice is 25 grains 3F GOEX, a Hornady #0 buckshot and thin patched oiled with a 4/1 Moosemilk.

Roger, that's a good look'in rifle. I've thought about a .36 cal. what do u use for a ramrod spatgetti ? I have a hard time imagining something that small. I guess just take a .50 and think smaller!! Anyway looks like you'll have sqirrel in the pan.. Richard..

Hi Roger. Nice photo and game. I would love to hunt tree rats one day however there are none down here in New Zealand. Would you be so good as to send me a breeding pair?

Roger, that is one sweet rifle. BTW, very nice shooting. Looks to me that all were taken with head shots. Thanks for the pic. Jack

Anyway looks like you'll have sqirrel in the pan.. Richard.. Thanks for the comment on the rifle. It sort of fits me in that we both look OK (from a distance ) I've not had a 36, but I believe it would be nice. One of my main reasons for the 32 is tradition and that I can buy balls in bulk (buckshot). I believe #00 buck would work for a 36 cal. Ramrod? I've got a noodle (limber plastic) on this one. My next choice is 1/4 inch brass stock. Another good option is alum. arrows. They are available in several sizes and the hard coating doesn't pick up grit like softer material. Take care, have fun.... Roger D. in Southern Indiana

I've read stories about the fish and game in New Zealand and have thought it must be near heaven. However, if you don't have tree rats, then..... If you make it to Southern Indiana, I'll be most happy to see that you get some experience. Take care, have fun.... Roger D. in Southern Indiana

I've also fitted a 54 cal roundball barrel and a 50 cal bullet barrel to the stock. I'm doing a little figuring on fitting a smooth bore. Take care, have fun.... Roger D. in Southern Indiana

Roger, I noticed the wood to metal fit is excellent on your rifle. The tiger striping on the stock doesn't show up well in the photo but I can tell it would be beautiful in person. I hopre you display this on a wall when not in use. Just too durn pretty to be hidden away in a safe or closet. Jack ;D

Metal to wood fit?.... ah yes, the magic of low resolution photos. Thanks. The wood is only about a #2 grade. I'm thinking about re-doing it with aqua fortis to bring out its modest striping. Hide it away? Well, it does spend some time in the safe, but it spends more time out of safe and quite often on the cleaning stand. I use it for deer, squirrels, groundhogs, fur varmints and general plinking. It doesn't have a lot of idle time.
Again, thanks for the kind words.

I remeber my old man taking me squirrel hunting for the first time years back. It seemed like the older I got, the less time we spent, the more rebelious I got, we always had the morning of the first Indiana frost to go get squirrels. That was his thing. Never would hunt untill after that first frost.
