Blue dot, i know how ya feel back in 89 my lab was 13 and i bought my britt well i was going up grouse hunting with the gang and just taking the pup and my lab pushed open the screen door and jumped into the car. Well i didn't have the heart to put her back in the house so off we went. We hunted a hour or so that day evening then the next morning for a couple of hours. When we went back for the afternoon hunt i left the lab in the cabin knew she was tired when we got bact that evening i let her out to go potty and never seen her again. Believe me i was up all nite searching and calling but i never found her. My britt was also 13 and arthitis (spelling) was bad in her back legs but she still got around ok until one very humid june day the day of my daughters HS graduation i let her out to go potty and she just laid down and went on herself so at that point i knew what i had to do so that monday i stopped by the vet and he said we had to do it he gave me some good meds for her and came to the house the next morning. I don't know which was harder not knowing what happened to my lab or having to put down my britt both sucked as they were both my little girls.

It is really tough to say good-bye to an old friend. I have a spot under a row of Oaks where our dogs train and run and have just a merry old time This where our dogs are laid to rest. Maggie was buried a couple of weeks back and I wrapped her in my hunting coat inside her casket. Everyday I walk past them (three) and give my thanks. Red Club

I am having a little problem for finding words for this given situation and probably will be faced with this in a few years as well of saying good-bye to a close dear friend that has enriched my life. The only consolation I have to comfort me is the quality of life my dog has received from me. Instead of being put down at 4 months because he was a mistreated pup I gave him a reprieve on life. Instead of being chained or locked up I took him out into the field to build and share adventures. Instead of limiting his instincts of just guarding a home I allowed and encouraged his natural instincts to hunt surface. Instead of allowing him to suffer any pain or disease I made sure all his medical needs were met. Instead of him just giving love and loyalty I also returned this to him.
