These are pics of a 250SST recovered from a deer shot at 116yds at approx 2300fps muzzle velocity. Entered at a sharp angle behind the shoulder missing lungs but plowing through the liver and guts and stopping under the skin in the hind quarter. Retained 89 percent of its weight but not a lot of expansion. The same crew that passed this on to me took several other deer with nearly all boiler room pass throughs, granted they were longer shots than this at similar speeds. The exit holes were not overly large in any case and they never had to track as all deer dropped within 50yds of the shot, so they never payed attention to blood trails. Grouse posted some results with BH209 where the bullet penciled through, where with the old tip there was usually pretty large exit holes even at BP speeds. The shot I hacked up this year was a spine shot at approx. 2600 muzzle velocity, complete pass through at approx. 60yds. The finish shot was at approx. 20yds at a sharp angle, by the hole the in the heart the bullet expanded nicely but it came apart when it exited the brisket putting two holes you could insert your index finger into. According to Hornady the flex tip performed the same as the old polymer tip in their testing, per another member here. This is too small of a test case sampling to draw any conclusions but I posted this to see if anyone else has noticed any difference between the tips terminally. That is if anybody still uses this bullet.

Dave- Good Question. I also saw Grouse,s report on the new flex tip. I haven,t shot anything with the new tip but the 250sst is still the most accurate bullet in my gun. Surely someone has tried the new tip and will report results.

Have not shot the flex version but have had several pass throughs at 2300 or so with simular results, all deer were dead. Have put a couple 250SSTs through the spine in a high shoulder shot and they exited well.
