:)well guys i had a chance to get out to the range today with the .40 and .45.the temp was 30 degrees with some stiff variable winds.i started with the .40 and .358 saboted hornady sp's powered by 2015.well the holes were round in the target but all over .the sabots didn't fail and velocity's were in the 2650 to 2760fps range with charges of 60grs to 64grs.i then moved to the .45 and things got better.i first tried the harvestor cr sabot's and here is what i found in my gun.they load easier and shot 50fps slower then the regular harvestors.accuracy was close here's a pic. i then shot a group with the 195bx's with the regular harvestors at 100yrds. then a group with the 195bx's with the regular harvestor sabots at 200yrds. matt sorry i couldn't post something nice with the .40 and rifle bullets but i will have to try a different powder and see what happens.have you shot anymore?how about you chuck?

Dave, Interesting findings..........i think i will hold off on buying any .45 Harvester CR sabots for the present time. They don't appear to be any more accurate and the loss of velocity doesn't impress me. Easier to load isn't a good enough reason for me.......... Good data, thanks for sharing with we other .45er's! Dave,Very nice report and some fine shooting! :)I think that is very interesting that the crush rib lost velocity.

Dave, That is interesting about the crush ribs shooting slower.I had the opposite experience in the .50.Depending on the gun, I saw a gain in velocity,up to a 100 fps faster over the MMP sabots....this was with the BO.I will have to see if that holds true with other bullets as well.

Hi Dave, I have not tried any more yet, my 180 hornady sp's should be here this week. I did find a box of 250 gr (Not what i wanted) Yesterday and picked them up, i was going to start low on the 2015 , about 45 grains to see how they did at low velocity and then go up. I may also try Benchmark and H4198 to see how they do. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Tar, I'm guessing that the CR sabot for the .45 is designed for a .40 bullet. The BCR we use with .458s in the .50 is designed for .451 or .452 bullets. That may be the difference.

The .45-.40 crush rib is about 50 fps slower in my daugheter's .45 Kodiak with BH209. the sabot loads a lot easier than the mmp, but I wanted an easy loading load for her.

Sure looks like good shooting to me, although I think that your first target has the makings for a tornado with the cold front descending and the warm front moving in from the south ;D

Edge: I did not know you were a meterologist also. You wear many hats.
