I shot some SR4759 this past weekend with 250g Shockwaves and MMP HP12 sabots. This combo loaded with about 50 lbs of force on average. The 4759 is almost two years old and has been kept in the original plastic jug. I've shot up about half of it. Velocity for a 44g load just barely cracked 2200 fps.
I recall some saying that 4759 in the old metal cans shot faster.
What velocity are others getting with SR4759 and 250g bullets?

I got right around 2100+ fps with 43 grains of the newer stuff in the plastic jug. Some of the folks on here said they were getting 2300 fps with 43 grains of the old stuff in the tin can. I want to work up to 44 or 45 grains to see what happens, if I ever get around to it. Might not bother.

Chris,
You are in line with what I've gotten with the newer stuff. Older stuff was a little faster. Ask Herman. Each seems to produce consistency and decent accuracy.

Herman, or anybody else out there. I was wondering what kind of group you were getting with the faster loads. The SR4759 powder loads and limits is getting is somewhat confusing with the old powder and the new plastic jug powder. I want to work up a load with the 4759 in the plastic jug and it seems like a lot of the listed loads are around 42 to 44 grains. Now I see some up in the 47 grain range. I guess I'm wondering how much you can safely push it and be safe and accurate. DH

In my opinion you can shoot up to 48 grains with the plastic jug powder and still be safe. This is just my opinion and if you don't feel comfortable shooting that much powder then by all means don't.
If you know how to read sabots then you can kind of tell when you are getting close to maximun for that powder.
I'm shooting one gun at 47.5 and will most likely increase a grain to see if accuracy increases. Mike

The old lot number of 4759 has been my favorite load for many years now at 47.5 grs. It has been the most accurate and consistant in my savages so far.Have shot some very impressive groups even out to 300 yds with this load but not saying I do this consistantly, lord knows I get my share of big groups also.If I took a rough guess I have went through 12 to 15 lbs of the old lot number in my rifles and others that I have helped set up. I would say that most rifles that I have helped with will shoot 47.5 grs but I have seen some that would destroy the sabot at 44 grs.( I am only talking about the old lot number now.) Several years ago I helped a fellow set up his savage,he wanted to use the 300 sst.So we started out low and worked up to 47.5 grs.I wouldn't have believed him if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes but he put 7 shots into one hole at 100 yds. If I could find about 25 lbs of the old lot number that would be all I would shoot. Now the newer lots in the plastic jugs It is a horse of a different color.I have shot one jug with 2005 and 2007 date and have yet to get a one holer.I have went up to 50 grs with the 250 gr bullets and still haven't gotten very close to the same fps as the old lot.I am going to get a jug with the 2008 date to try soon as I get the time to try it. My shooting time has been very limited the last couple of months because my mom has little time left, the doc gave her a couple hours left monday but she is still hanging in there this morning, she is in a nursing home a 100 miles away and my wife is in a nursing home here so driving back and forth I hve very little shooting time now. Didn't get to hunt as much this year but did luck out and get a nice 8 pointer with the savage useing my favorite load.

Herman, I also am sorry to hear about your mother and will remember you and family in my prayers at this difficult time. Thank you for the information on 4759. This will help me a great deal when I start to develop a load. It may be a while though as my range is under two feet of snow. DH
