Wanting to start my buddy out with book loads, can't find winchester primers anywhere. Is there another one more easily found that should work trouble free? Thanks

Fed209a or CCI 209 magnum primers would be your best choices. Stay away from any primer that is marketed or labed for use with Tripple Seven. Those are not hot enough for consistent ignition with smokeless.

I use only CCI Magnum primers, but they probably are not nearly as common as the W209. Try also the Federal 209; I think it's the 209A. I'd guess any 209 regular shotgun primer would be reliable.

I had problems with the Win209 primers that failed to fire in my gun. Found the CCIs readily available around here and haven't had a missed fire since. I haven't found the CCI Magnum primers locally or I would be using them. Some folks say one primer works better for them and some say others do.

I also use CCI primers. Moved to the 209M when I started with H4198. I never had one fail to push the sabot out of the barrel. H4198 and IMR4227 have failed to go bang, but not due to primer malfunction.

I've never ever had a issue with Winchester primers, in fact all I use in my HB Ltd is the Win209's. In the RB 45 all I use is CCIM.

Chuck41, I couldn't find the CCI Magnum primers, either, so asked a local gun shop to add 1000 to their next regular ammunition order. That way I didn't have to pay either hazmat or postage.
