I live in west Central Illinois..I am having a dicken's of a time locating VV N120. I have tried every place in a 60 mile radius. I want some to work up a load with my barnes original.. I have other powder's to try also 5744 and 4759..But I have read many time's that the most preferred load is with the VV N120. Midway has it in stock..But with a $9.00 handling fee and a twenty some dollar hazmat fee and shipping . That pushes it somewhere around 50 to 60ish a pound. I am beginning to wonder if I want to get addicted to this stuff. Anybody in west central Illinois have any idea? Thanks Drop

Try H322 or H4198

I'll second H4198. I shot up two lbs of it this past year with the BO's and for me it shot just as good if not better than N120. H4198 will also give you more speed than N120 if your shoulder can take it. I shoot 67g with the Harvester Black Crush Rib sabot and I get 2400 fps even in 20* temps. 2500 fps is doable at around 70gr but that load will "talk to you" when you touch it off.

I have always used VV N110 with the 250 grain bullets. This year I switched to the 300 gr BO and too wanted to use VV N120,but like you could not find it anywhere.I ended up buying Alliant Reloader 7 (a double-based powder) and @ 67 grains I was shooting sub-moa @ 100 yards (300 BO,HBCR,Fed 209A).The Reloader 7 might be another option for you to try.

The 4198 or Reloader 7 are good alternate choices to the N-120.

dito for 4189 & RL7, both are good and produce close to the same speeds, both are stiff in the recoil dept at top speeds.

Not for nothing, but I ordered my current batch of N-120 in an 8lb jug for $22 per lb, including the shipping and hazmat fees. That's a lot of powder to order if you aren't sure if you'll like it or not, but there seems to be a good amount of Savage shooters in central Illinois here, so you shouldn't have too hard a time finding a buyer if it's not for you (or someone to split an order with you).

Don't know how close you are to Springfield, but Bullet Express has a good selection of VV. I called them yesterday and they are the only place around that carries 110, and they sell it in 1# jugs for $29.99. I didn't ask about 120, but you can find their phone number if you google "bullet express springfield il".

Just talked to the guy at Bullet Express in Springfield, Il and he said that they will have VV N120 back in stock next week. He carries it in 1lb jugs. I know where I will be going to get mine from now on.
Thanks rangeball for suggesting this place. This is about the only place that I haven't called in Illinois.

There certainly are other powders that work well, I just like it because it is somewhat cleaner burning in my estimation.

For those of us living in the St. Louis region a local dealer who deals at area gun shows gets limited amounts of N-120 when he makes his semi annual orders. If you anticipate needing N-120 he can supply you ,if you are not in a panic about needing it.He repeated the same thing said on this board that there just isn't a large enough call for N-120 to justify stocking large amounts.
Maybe this board can change his mind about that. He comes to the Bellville IL Gun Show couple times a year

mshm, Thanks for the info. I had this Patrick's phone no. before from Craig F & called him but he was out at the time. Then after I found some from a board member he got more in. The limited availability of N120 is aggrevating!! Mark

I have five or six pounds left.
I will sell all but two pounds, for Elebben Thousand, Two Hundred, and Twenty Nine Dollars and Fifty Six cents a pound.
And I deliver anywhere in the Continental U.S.A., except New York City.
(I think you can still get 8 lbs worth. Some of you that live close enough need to form a coalition)..........
