I was wondering where the best location for the extra action screw would be. I recalled reading one of the regulars had located it 3/4 " ahead of the rear action screw. Can anyone tell me where it is on the Henry Ball and why it was put there?

I just finished doing mine. I put it 0.80 in front of the original rear action screw because it was as far back as it could go and not disturb the bedding around the rear pillar!
My as sumption was that I wanted the largest span that I could get. This was a plastic stock, and I can't give any info on the HB model.

Edge, Where did you get your pillar and screw? Dave I made the pillar at work, and we also has a nice assortment of screws! I suppose that you could just order a rear action screw from Savage when you order vent liners if you wanted it to be identical. I am thinking that if I were to do it again, that I would machine all three pillars out of one piece of metal and bed the whole unit, but I am very happy with the way it turned out. edge.

I located mine at 1.0 inch and used a pillar I believe from Brownells that had a curved radius to match the curvature of the round receiver.

Jim S, which pillar did you go with from Brownell's and what did you glue it in with? What is the best and easiest bedding media to work with? Dave

I believe I ordered remington pillar bedding blocks. This is from memory. The pillars have a radius that matched the Savage receiver very well. I BELIEVE the stock number is 720-200-700 , location A14D9B, price $11.44. I used Brownell's accruGel and their aluminum powder mixed in to bed the pillars. I put it on a Richard's Microfit Exhibition stock. It came out well but I am not computer literate enough to post a photo. I also have a Choate ultimate sniper stock for accuracy work ups (hopefully) as I have not tried it yet . So many new things with 3 hole liners, long life 1 hole liners, duplex loads, aluminum washers I don't know where to start. I did turn down the pillars on a lathe to the exact length needed. I also added a large stainless steel washer on the outside of the bottom of the pillar. Someday I will post the photo hopefully.

Jim S, Are Richard's Microfit Exhibition stocks made for the 10Ml2? I'm like you I'm not sure where to start or go? Dave

But,,,, they are not made for the 10ML-II,,,they dont cut the groove for the ram rod, unless they changed things, you'll have to do that on your own. John O makes stocks for the ML-II, if your interested, his e-mail address is over on the SAV10ML site, in the custom stocks area. He's made 3 for me. The Windsong ranch stock was my fave, but that's gone But it's doing good things where it went! Randy Dunn

Randy would John O do pillar bedding on the stock? If so, would you need to send him your own rifle to make it fit?

Richard's does not make a stock exclusively for the muzzleloader. You would need to order the short action and ask that the barrel channel be routed out for an inch wide barrel. That's at no extra charge I recall. Not all stocks are available in that wide of channel. There will be no ramrod channel. I do not mind as I hunt out of a permanent stand on my farm so I don't need that. It takes 3 plus months to get the same on some stocks. You can get the good Decellerator recoil pad for about $45 more. It takes a lot of hours, materials to finish the stock. IF I did not enjoy that and I did not have a ML11 already I would have bought the Henry Ball and spent that time shooting.

Randy would John O do pillar bedding on the stock? If so, would you need to send him your own rifle to make it fit? Yes. He builds the pillars into the stock. He will bed your gun for you. And yes you'd have to send him the gun for glass bedding. The pillars fit great the way he does them (he has several ML-II's). He'll also fit the gun for you. (LOP and Cheek) The 2 I still have fit me like a glove. He does a bunch of styles. Send him an e-mail! Randy Dunn
