Just a few thoughts from someone who has shot MLs almost exclusively since 1963. The 10-ML2 is in a league of its own. The slower progressive, burning of smokless powder is safer then BP/substitutes IMO and allows higher velocities since less instantaneous pressure is exerted on the sabot - just a longer sustained push. This is the rational behind duplex and the slower powders with the 3-hole ventliner - ie to get a longer push with less instant pressure on the sabot. If in question, load 3 Pyrodex pellets and a 250g bullet then 44g of V V-110 / 250g bullet, chrono each(400'+'/sec difference) yet lower perceived recoil(Edge) with the faster load. The pyrodex recoil will get your attention. Currently barrel heat and the increased softness of the sabots really affects the performance of the 10-ML - don't get discouraged. Let your barrel cool(maybe inside your airconditioned vehicle with the vents blowing on it or just taking time outside) and shoot lighter loads. Don't try to set speed records now. The 250SST/Shockwave is likely the most practical and easiest bullet to start with. 5744, 4759 and especially V V-110/120 are great powders. Likely lower loads w/o subbases would be most satisfying. 250XTPs are a more economical way to initially work-up loads. Use the new MMP short sabots. Use Wonder Wads just over your powder(helps lessen build-up and cleaning. 200Shockwaves are harder to work-up. Only advantage I can see is less recoil and slightly flatter trajectory. Costs more to shoot(subbase req'd), and with some powders/conditions a little greater chance of a missfire(with 1-hole vent, likely very unlikely with 3-hole). If using 3-hole ventliner, make sure you use appropriate loads not the older loads.
I'm not an expert on this thing, but I have shot traditional ML well over 10,000 shots and the 10-ML&10-ML2 >2000 times over the past 4 years. Remember to strive for accuracy and reliability(don't blow sabots) and that the difference between 2400'/sec and 2600+'/sec with a 0.21BC bullet has minimal effect to 300yds. Hope this offended no one - just trying to help people with little experience with this rifle.
