When you start preparing the barrel for dovetails & etc. Do you draw file the entire barrel or just draw file the flats that will be showing ? I drawfile the entire barrel. I don't know why, but I do it & then I look at it & think "I wonder if anyone will ever see that I did this" ? One time I did half the showing flats, put the dovetails in, looked at it & thought "this looks like crap". Took the dovetails back out & finished drawfiling the barrel. Wasted efforts ? What are the rest of you doing with them ?

I do the entire barrel. I don't know why cause I'm the one that did not have a problem breaking into the barrel channel with my RR lugs. or nto the rr channel with my barrel lugs. You have shown me how easy it is not not do either so I will do that different next time. Ha-ha Packdog

Wasted efforts? I don't think so and I also draw file the whole barrel. I always felt it needed to be done so the barrel would look good when someone took it out of the stock for a through cleaning. And always thought if I built a gun and the person took the barrel out of the stock and seen I didn't "finish" the bottom of the barrel he might think I was lazy or took shortcuts. I'll stay with draw filing the whole enchilada. ;D

I draw file all the flats and polish the whole barrel for my own personal pride of a job worth doing, is a job I do well. I have pride in knowing I go the extra for quality in my work. I've been given post transaction gifts for the fine quality in workmanship and care that I've sold to them. So I know that what I've built is greatly appreciated. That part is priceless. and can't be taken away.

I had a neighbor once who told me as a kid. "If anything is worth doing it's worth doing right". That has stuck with me ever since.
