The stock finish question got me thinking. Yes, a dangerous thing. Ha-Ha I would like to know how everyone treats the areas that aren't seen. Barrel channel, under the buttplate, lock mortise, inside of the patchbox. I stain and seal them same as the stock. Probably more sealer than the rest of the stock.

Regardless of the finish I use, I seal everything I possibly can inside with Tru-Oil. I run Q'tips soaked in it thru the bolt holes, drip it into cracks or crevices & then dab out the excess with a cleaning patch & tiny screwdriver, I want it up thru the trigger inlet, under the buttplate, entrypipe, lock, sideplate, nosecap end, etc., everywhere I can seal it. Actually the end grains are where the most of the moisture will come in at. I even out a patch on the end of a 1/4" dowel & seal the end of the RR hole where it is close up to the lock. www.customflintlocks.com

Packdog, I stain the whole stock and then seal everything I possibly can, pretty much like Birddog said.
