I have an older knight wolverine that still has the nipple for a percussion cap. I've never read anywhere exactly when you are supposed to change nipples. I had this zeroed in using 70 weighed grains of T7 with a 250 gr. XTP bullet and Harvester red crush rib sabot. This weekend we checked it out again and the point of impact dropped 3 to 4 inches low. We were shooting at 75 yds using peep sights and groups were quit satisfactory. The only thing that was changed was the nipple. We put in the old nipple and and the point of impact seemed to come back where we expected it to be. It must have something to do with the size of the orifice. Does anybody out there have any good information on when to change nipples and are there some that are better then others. DH

Most guns now days are designed to use 209 primers. Hot Shot use to be a very good replacement nipple for #11 caps. Best thing to do is contact Knight. Mike

That's weird IMO. Did you chrono any of these shots or have a baseline from previous range visits?
I have logged hundreds if not thousands of shots with a Knight Disc and a Thompson Thunderhawk and have never seen a problem like this. I also have never measured the orifices. I did however clean the nipples and, in the case of the knight, the breech plug, very thoroughly every time I tore the gun down.
In the Thunderhawk, switching to musket caps made a difference in the consistency of ignition and accuracy...for whatever that's worth. #11's are OK but truly relaible ignition is better obtained with musket caps...or better yet...209's.
Just my thoughts.
