Guys this tournament marked a end to a 2 month hiatus from wrestling due to injuries received to his wrist as he competed as a 13 yr old 8th grader in the Illinois High School division. This meant wrestling anyone from a freshman to senior in his weight class. This spring prior to the wrist injuries he went 12-4.3 losses went to double overtime.he lost by one point in 2 of the 3 losses and by 2 in the 3rd.The 4th loss was a old fashioned butt whupping! ;D.The tournament where he injured his wrist was a tough one as well.He won it,but I knew something was wrong when he could not finish a simple single leg take down in the bottom of the 3rd.He was wrestling a Senior and this kid was animal and had met his match in my son.The end result was "Q" won 4-2.But it came at a heavy price as we would later find out that he had 2 partial ligament tears in his right wrist. If they would have been full tears I might not be writing this story. He has recovered fully and "HE IS BACK"with a vengeance! He participated in a Borders Wars qualifier this am and took no prisoners!Mind this, they bumped him up 2 weight classes as there was not enough kids at the 140 mark. They also bumped him a age group.(He weighed in at 139.6)So he got bumped to the 155 pound class wrestling as a 14 yr old against 15 yr old 155 pounders. He wrestled 3 times. The first one we practiced on to get him warmed up.I kept having cut the kid loose and work different moves we have been working on.He ran the score up 15-0 and then I gave him the pin sign.He took him out.The next 2 were a lot tougher.2nd one 14-6 and the 3rd was 9-6.The 3rd kid had some heart. He broke the first 2s will to continue. ;DFollowing is a picture of "Q"after his first place victory. How sweet it is!My boy is back!

It is nice to excel in any sport. Congratulations to you and to Q. I understand your pride and the thrill of being involved in the team. Sounds to me like he is a skilled competitor. Good luck in your future matches. Ben

HS season starts Monday Nov.3rd. >:(There wil be no more weekend warrior stuff until HS season is over.I absolutley hate that! They can do no wrestling outside of school.I do not agree with that at all.I think that they lose valuable training time during this period. Can someone explain this to me?The way I see it they should be allowed to.For the simple fact they can pick up valuable extra training experience. Why would the school not want that?

Only my guess but the school is probably selfish and afraid their members could get injuries while not representing the school. I like your line of thinking beter. Ben

Ben You may very well be right Ben.Wrestling outside of school keeps them sharp as they never know the quality of the next wrestler stepping out on the mat.In school practice they know who they can and can not whip and they grow lax about their training.Thats why I prefer to keep him on the road training. In "Qs" case,he can whip them all at his school due to the fact that he wrestles alot on the weekends and at National events.Unfair advantage?NOT!!!As far as I am concerned if you want to be top dog, train for it or sit on the porch!!!
