Well, Bubba hunts public land in the very northern part of michigan, where it is all swamps & hard woods, no farming at all for about 20 miles in any direction, the winter kill from weather is often an entire generation depending on the weather. Well, we went up early this year, stayed a night in the motel, as it is about 420 mile drive for us. That way, we get one last shower for the week as we camp in a tent Here is a video that my game camera caught of the only deer that made its way near there. Notice that there is a mere nubbin for the G3 on the right antler, otherwise a nice 3.5yr old 10 ptr.......... Now fast forward to opening day in Michigan, Nov 15th, and notice the same nubbin for the rt hand G3 antler ! I like it when a plan comes together ! This may not appear to be much of a trophy for many of you, but for the kind of hunting that I choose to do, this is probably the best deer that I will have an opportunity to harvest in my life time. I have hunted the same general area for about 30 years, and this is the 3rd animal of that size that I have seen. let alone had a chance to bag. The inside spread is about 16 inches, and scores roughly 110-115 or so. I dont really care about scores, its rather digital to me, either a 1 (shoot it) or zero (pass). Cheers! -bubba

Thanks guys, I go for the hunt. This year, i have been blessed. My back has been in spasms alot, I missed half of archery season, I went as soon as I could pull the bow back, I hunted an hour, bagged a buck in the backyard basically. I went to northern michigan at the last minute after a physical therapy session for the back (again in spasms) and hunted 2.5 hours. So in 2008, I hunted 3.5 hours and bagged two bucks I probably wont be able to repeat that again !

Good job Bubba. Sorry to hear about the back problem. As for the size of your buck, it is one to be proud of. You did it your way and there is a lot to be said for that. Ben

cleaned the animal today, got the bullet from under the far side hide.
The 150gr spitzer (speer hot core) was mushroomed well, alittle deformed, hit ribs on both sides and weighed in at 123 grains 80+% of the original weight - not too bad.

Bubba, a buck like that is considered a trophy by my standards. Congratulations on a job well done.

Nice buck. Many folks have different ideas of a trophy. I firmly believe that a trophy deer is dependent on two things. The first being the particular area hunted, I personally wish we had them like they do in Ill, IA and Indiana. The second and most important is the eye of the beholder. I beholder that to be a trophy, thank you very much.

Nice hunt Bubba. I hate to hear of anyone having thosh back spasms. Been there and they are no fun. Big fish, Big deer, large antlers, small antlers have nothing to do with the intelligence of the deer or the skills of the hunter or fisherman. Your deer is better than average and I am happy you got it. Hope you get that back completely well soon. Ozark
