My brother in law has a T/C encore that has never been particularly accurate with what ever he has stuffed down the tube. Pyrodex , 777, only so so.
Based on what I've read here I encouraged the tight wad to buy some BH209. Since he had finally shot up his last pyrodex pellets,he bought a can of BH209.
I had about 12 250 gr SST's and suggested the shot good out of my Savage, but did not not hold up well against the higher velocities. I said free. He said "I like free"!
We tried them. Bingo!!! Sub MOA. Great stuff! It has lived up to the advertising. If you aren't using this stuff ,you should.

I plan on getting some for my son after he shoots up his 777 loose powder. Dang crud rings. MSHM, where did you get that in the St. Louis area? Cabelas?
Thanks, Mark

That is where tight wad bought it. No crud ring, two dry patches between shots,no cleaning necessary when done. mshm

You still have to eventually clean the gun just not right away.........

Tight wad is not real big on cleaning.but I anticipate that plastic fouling may become a problem that he has never dealt with.My guess hoppe's and a brush will be just the ticket.

Back in March I was at my favorite range and a guy in the stall next to me was shooting a Encore 209x50 with 110 grains of BH209 and 250 grain SW at 200yrds not 100, 200 yards and I watched him shoot a 3-shot group under two inches no less and did not go over 3"0 for any group he shot. Told me he shoots his Encore for all his deer hunting and has since they first came out over 10yrs ago, and he never got accuracy like this from anything else, and not only accuracy but the same shot after shot! Told me he does not even own a slug gun anymore.
I have since bought two bottles of it for use in my Encore. BH209 is the real deel. Im interested to see what Hodgdon will do in reaction to BH209 as thay (Hodgdon) dominate the BP sub market. Most likely thay will simply buy the rights to BH209.

The next step for Hodgdon is the white hots There sister company IMR will be out with it after the 2009 shot show Shawnee Mission Kansas, September 25, 2008-- IMR-Legendary Powders enters the muzzleloading market with newly developed White Hots. The only white gunpowder, White Hots unleash pure power offering high performance preformed charges.
IMR engineers have designed the most modern technology muzzleloading propellant that:
• Looks nothing like anything seen before, it’s the only white gunpowder
• Are in easy to load preformed charges, especially well suited for speed loading today’s 50 caliber in-line 209 rifles
• Delivers faster velocities than the competition for more knock down performance on game
• Shoots consistently with pinpoint shot to shot accuracy
• Is cleaner burning for faster follow-up reloading and easy clean up
• Produces no strong odors, it is sulfur and charcoal free, making rotten egg smell non-existent
• Are packaged in an unique 72-unit carton, convenient for carrying into the field

BH209 works really well for my son's Encore PH. We've been through 5 bottles of it since this summer and will never go back to anything like T7 or Pyrodex. Tried it with several different 250gr bullets but ended up going with the Parker 275gr BE. He just shot a really big doe this evening, first kill with the BH209 and Parker bullet. From about 100yds range he laid her down on the spot. Best part of this is not needing to do anything but reload the gun tomorrow for the remainder of the weekend...no patching or cleaning necessary.

MSHM, were you using the sabot suplied by Hornady that came with the 250grn SSTs, or something else? I also have a Encore and bought around 150ea of 250&300grn SSTs a few years back on a super close out deel that cost me around $4.00 per 10/SSTs. Thay were the ones with the sabot that had a stem designed for use with pelatized propelent, so I must use a aftermarket sabot. Most likely one of my MMPs or Harvester BLK/CR.
Thanks, Arthur.

Just got back from hunting the 4 day ,second gun season here in Illinois.Tough conditions .We used the sabots that came with the sst's.They are black and dont have that stem. Some one else might be more knowledgableabout who makes them. the sst's are horn part#67272. Tight wad connected on nice fat doe,and the 250 sst poked a big hole in that deer. Since we didnot have a lot of time for load developement we stayed with the 100gr loads. Tight wad is hot to do load developement now. Thanks for the tip on drilling out breach plug . And thanks for the IMR white hot update. Now that BH209 has raised the bar ,there is no going back. IMR white hot has no choice but to be as good as or better the bh209, a tall order to fill I'd say.
