My friend recently decided to buy a muzzleloder and asked my opinion of which one of the two fallowing muzzleloders he should buy that he has looked at that a neighbor has for sale.
New in box Knight Disk Elite in .50 caliber SST/BLK SYN stock
cost $285
New in box Knight Disk Elite in .45 caliber SST/BLK SYN stock
cost $285
Used but in vary good shape first run model Encore 209x50 blued/walnut cost $350
Unfortunately I can not talk him into buying a 10ML-II as he simply will not spend that much money as he has limited himself to spending less than $400 and he will not buy a firearm used sight un-seen.
As I own a 209x50 I was able to tell him all that I liked and disliked about the Encore, but I do not know anything at all about Knights Disk Elites. My gut reaction was to tell him to buy the Knight Disk Elite in .45 caliber as I feel thats a VG price on one NIB. I also feel based again on what I know about my Encores design VS the Elite's design that the Elite would be a much simpler and easier rifle to clean and should be at least as accurate as the Encore, but again having never owned a Knight I am only guessing. The fact that the Knight is also stainless steel is also a big plus in my opinion VS the Encore is in blued steel.
So could owners of Knight Disk Elites please educate me on them in terms of what you like & dislike especially about the breach plug and plastic disks the Knight uses to hold the 209 primers. If he buys the Elite will he have to buy any aftermarket items to modify his bolt or buy a different breach plug. I ask because my memory tells me I have read a few posts about disk rifles, not the Elite model in particular, having to be modified with aftermarket items to eliminate the possibilities of miss or hang fires.
I would really appreciate as much info on this I can get as my friend is relying on my to help him decide which gun to purchase.
Thank you,
Arthur.
