I just picked up my first ML, A used Rem. 700ML. It is in pretty good shape after a good cleaning.I didn't get any of the accessories such as the breach plug wrench or any of the cleaning tools and yesterday I went to a good gun shop and they said that finding this stuff is going to be an ebay thing.
I put a 3x9 scope on her and have ordered a 209 conversion-good thing-yes/no?
I took it out back and tuned the scope and it shot really well, the seller gave me some Pyrodex and some 250 powerbelts.I shot it at 100 gr. with #11 primers.
I really don't have any opinion as to what to shoot for powder or ammo,I have read alot but have a few questions.
What can I expect from the 209 conversion,It is not a Rem. product?
Can I add loose powder to pellets to get a middle range load?
I noticed at the gun shop that they had some lube patches that are cut to the bore diameter and are a bit thicker, what are these used for?
I am really looking forward to playing with my new toy!Ron

Welcome. 209 will give you more fire to light the charge. Good thing. Don't spend any money pyrodex,777 or any other old school stuff. Buckhorn 209 has raised the bar. IMR will have a new powder out this spring. All the new stuff is Non corrosive , more accurate ,less cleanup. The guy at the gun shop will want sell that old junk on the shelf . Resist . Power belts ,junk. Bonded 250 gr shokwaves, good place to start. New powder requires a couple dry patches between shots, cut up a tee shirt.Loose powder with pellets , The new stuff is mostly loose.
Just my opinion mshm

The 209 conversion is better than the Remington version.

My son had a 700mzl. He put the 209 kit in it. It liked 110gr of 777 and a Hornaday 240grXTP..Shot them under an inch @100yds... Never shot a deer with them though....
