I need help with a light load for youth. What would be the minimum speed you would push a .40,200gr,SST for deer.I was thinking somewhere in the 1500fps range.Using BH209 for powder in an Encore.I know this is a smokeless forum but I trust the opinions of many on this forum.

na you got the right place! my dad started me out with 60 grns of reg BP and300 grn non sabot 50 cal all lead bullet in a side lock so id think 70 grns might be a good start and work up to what he or she is comfortable with and accurate with.

I haven't shot it over the chrony, but a .40/200 SST over 90 gr of BH209 is a pleasure to shoot.

Check out the "light girlfriend" thread from a few months ago on this forum.
A 200 gr bullet going 1300 fps is light! And adequate with good shot placement.
This is a .44 mag type load and will kill any deer that walks. Trajectory will be your limiting factor.

I can give you the load I had my daughter shoot and she loved it because virtually no kick and just enough bang and smoke to be exciting. The load is 80gr of loose Triple 7 and a 200 gr SST gave 1.5 inches at 100 yards. I ended up shooting that load a lot since it was more accurate than my other loads. I have shot deer out to about 120 yards with this one. I have since switched to BH209 and have not yet worked up a load using this powder and the 200 SST. From my experience with the Blackhorn though I would say 75 gr is a good staring point and possibly even 70.
