I ordered a RRA 24" A4 varmint today and was wondering about thoughts on barrel break in. I have plenty of time to think about it because of the 10 -12 week (or longer) wait till it arrives

I like to go to the various barrel makers web sites and read their thoughts on breaking in a barrel. I've used a couple of their recommendations and I haven't noticed any difference in barrel accuracy, ease of cleaning, or amount of copper removed.

Not familiar with RRA barrels, but if they are a custom hand lapped barrel, they should not need much in the way of break-in. I shoot a lot of Kriegers, Shilens, Harts, Lilja's, Douglas and a number of others. I also build my own rifles and have a Hawkeye borescope. What I do after chambering is to get a fairly tight patch with some 800 grit. lapping compound (sold thru various industrial suppliers - MSC.com comes to mind) I just lightly lap the area of the leade. (thats where the lands are tapered to accept the bullets ojive) In chambering, this area tends to get some slight "snots" which the lapping removes. The bore should need nothing. I may run that same patch down and back two or three times just barely exiting the muzzle and pulling it back to clean up the crown. If the hand lapping they do after rifling the barrel does not smooth out the bore, those copper jacketed bullets are not going to do anything. JMHO! Richard
