A headline from the New York Times:
In Budget Crises, States Reluctantly Halt Road Projects
Many States are low on funds so are stopping road construction! Can somebody tel me what these crooks have done with the money from the Gasoline taxes? Every week I use 20 some gallons of gas to go back and forth to work. I pay State and Federal taxes to maintain the roads. The crooked Politicians have diverted the money to the "General Fund" and spent it.
If I were a small business man and spent the Sales Tax that I collected I think that I would go to jail!

It is the new way to run the country. All you got to do is cry that you don't have any money and sit back in Hawaii waiting for the government to bail you out. Common sense has gone out the window. On a bright note you could make a difference if you check Ebay. There might be a Senate seat up for bidding. Steve

Yes, road construction is now to a large extent on hold, here in N.Y. anyway. Much of it depends on Federal funds, that are tight due to the war in Iraq and lower tax revenue due to the recession. And government inefficiency is always a factor, but that hasn't changed much in the last 12 months. Here, road construction money is being diverted to maintenance, to keep the roads plowed etc. That's the way it is here, anyway. Signed- Pete, (a former construction inspector for N.Y.S.D.O.T.)

I read where the first bail out for Wall st bankers and insurance company ran to 245,000 dollars per US citizen over the age of 18. Just think of the economic of giving the money to the taxpayers. The IRS would take 70% or more back in taxes allowing the government to bail out plenty of corporate shortfalls. Regular folks could pay off the homes and autos so the banks could have money to lend. The dollar would probably be just as useless after that bail out as the continuing bail out going on now. We would be able to continue buying massive amounts of Chinese goods which would be good for their autocracy. And we could go to the beach to celebrate our windfall. The latter being very important to me and the 100 inches of snow fall so far this winter.

On a lesser but related subject, here in N.Y. it was announced recently that the rearing and stocking of pheasants in N.Y. is over due to the budget, and the program cost $70,000. About 5,000 pheasant breeders were slaughtered in Ithaca and given to soup kitchens. Their wings were clipped, so they couldn't be released. So ends youth hunts that the state was holding twice a year. Some hunter wrote in that the governor just spent $28,000 on a rug for his office. I do not know if it's true, but sorry to see the pheasant program go. Pete
