It was 1936 and times were hard. My wife to be was four years old and has never learned who paid for and mailed her the doll. Her Daddy had found work as a farm hand near Green Forest, Arkansas. That is about 70 miles from Leslie. On the farm was an old house that the family could move into and make do. So they loaded up a Model T Ford and began the move. Luther (My wifes dad said he felt like he pushed the car most of the way) He did say he got to steer it down hills. Somewhere in route they stopped at a store to get something they could all eat. In that store was, according to my wife, the most beautiful doll she has ever seen. When you put it on it's back it cried. She didn't ask her parents to buy it because she knew they didn't have that kind of money. Still, she wanted that doll more than she had ever wanted anything in her life. It was on to the Green Forest area and the beginning of life in a new place without the doll. At Christmas time a package arrived that contained the very doll that she had fell in love with. No return address and she was never to learn who bought and mailed it. She suspected the store owner but has made it to 2008 Christmas still remembering that gift the greatest present of her lifetime. Anonymous giver made a child believe in the good of mankind for a lifetime. Ozark

Interesting how things work out. In the past, I have helped out a co-worker who was really down on his luck with a very short end of the divorce stick. He was living in a pigeon coup in michigan, no heat....... YUCK ! He mentioned to me that Christmas was really gonna be dismal that year for him & his two children. I stuff an envelope full of greenbacks and left it on his desk. To it I attached a note that said: "Return the favor to someone in need when you can" Later that day, I saw a large note on his desk that read: " I WILL" Well, fast forward a few years, and the community that we both resided, was having a hard time drumming up the cash needed to open a safe house for abused women. This person that I assisted, did a benefit concealed weapons class - and donated thousands of dollars to assist the safe house fund. What goes around comes around - about ten fold I would say I have never mentioned this to anyone other than my wife - had to get the boss's okay initially. I no longer work with the person that did the fund raiser, but we still remain in contact via email ( he moved ). Holiday blessings to all -bubba
