My youngest daughter got her first deer today. It was a yearling, we were both pleased. It was a high shoulder shot at 130 yards with a Savage/SMI barrel/SSS trigger and aftermarket laminated thumbhole stock. We are both happy campers/hunters.

Congratulations to both. This is always a high point that etches itself into memories that last a lifetime. The size is special regardless. Since it was a high shoulder shot I figure it was a Down Right There kill. Ben

Ozark: You are right in that it was down right there. It was similar to a high shoulder shot I took a few years ago, it dropped at the shot but it was not dead when we got there. Both shoulders were damaged and it could not move but not dead.

I have three sons and a daughter. My wife has recently started hunting. She actually likes hunting bear over deer. I have felt better sharing their success. than I ever did killing something myself. I feel better about my wife and daughter than my sons success. I think it is because a son is almost expected to hunt and a girl isn't.
I hope that this is the start of many years of enjoyment for the both of you. Congratulations.
