Actually your best place might be Wal-Mart. If you have one local that has a FFL (most that carry ammo do) they can order you one in maybe cheaper then even Gander Mountain. Since you want a .270 it will be a long action and the 110 will probly be the cheapest Savage but I have seen the 111F combos w/scope on sale for like $350 a year ago. Another option would be a Stevens 200 which does not have the accutrigger but the rest is the same except for the stock color as a 111F, MSRP on a Stevens is $399.

I saw a model 14 classic American Savage at Gander Binghamton N.Y. for $730. Prices have gone way up. I bought the same rifle in .243 2 years ago at the same store for $540. Beautiful rifles though and accurate.

You asked about whether to go with a 270 or 30-06. That depends on what you want to hunt with it. If all you're after is deer, then the 270 is the way to go. If you plan on using it on something bigger, say moose or elk, you might want to consider the 30-06. The 270 would work on the larger game but it's nice to have that little extra.

If the Good Lord made a better cartridge than the .270, He kept it for himself!!
