A few years ago I belonged to a black powder club that had a " ball discharger". It used a CO2 cylinder similar to those used in seltzer bottles. I've tried a few sites on the net ( Dixie, Track etc) but to no avail. Any of you fellows know where I might pick something like this up ? I believe the one that our club had was called "Safetyshot Ball Discharger " and was manufactured by Pollock Manufacturing of Jewett City Ct. ;D And no I'm not sitting here with a "dry load", I just thought it would be good to have one so if I wanted to transport my rifle, I could unload it without shooting . ;D Soggy

Cabelas has a co2 discharger for $18.99 + S&H...You can also order extra adapters for what ever type of muzzleloader you might be trying to unload. Hope this helps.

Thanks Yooper ! I checked that out at Cabelas and it looks like that is just what I'm looking for. The one that I had used previous was a different style, but this one is most likely an improvement on the older ones. Once again thanks for your help. Soggy

I'm not sure Dalton Bros.I'm going to check it out with a Canadian Mailorder company and if they haven't got it I'll probably just forget about it.

Hey BP Hound I think we should both move south of the border Not only is the Canadian government trying to restrict what firearms we can use .......now they don't want us to have any gear to unload them. Maybe they think it would be better to fire that old smoke pole rather than unload it with a ball discharger. I know in which direction I would like to have it pointed sometimes ! ;D I wonder which state has the most LIBERAL gun laws ? ;D Soggy ;D

Traditions makes the most popular one. It comes with an adapter for us flintlockers also. Have had mine for 5 or so years now. Works great in those situations where u want to discharge without a bang. ;D www.traditionsfirearms.com/

Road cyclists use them to inflate repaired flats. They use standard CO2 cartridges that are used for BB guns. You then need a nipple adapter for the discharger, which are sold by many of the online and mailorder muzzleloading stores, as well as some of the better sporting good stores. Compressed air also works well. I use a blow nozzle, for an air compressor, that you can buy in most hardware stores. It has a bber tip on the nozzle that fits right over a nipple or can be pushed up tight to a vent hole. A shot of air at 100 psi blows a patched ball out with quite a bit of force. Make sure it's pointed in a safe direction or into a garbage can.
