Does anyone have any experience with the Lyman Deer Stalker? Are they decent rifles? The price seems right.

I have a flint in .50 and I like it. Had to lapp the bore slightly to remove a little roughness and tighten the groups but she'll plop 'em on the spot every time...off the bench at least... No major complaints, lock needed a slight bit of tuning, hammer had just a little too much play for my likes and the flint hold down screw threads were very rough and had to be cleaned up so as not to gall. First thing to do is take that giant front sight bead off and throw it away, ok for target but horrible for trying to hit anything else. For the lack of anything else handy at the time, I went with RMC FO's...on the front it's ok but the rear blurrs out and makes getting a good sight picture nearly impossible. Changing everything I have over to notch & blade including the CF's. Keep in mind the Lyman bores are metric so they are .502" with a groove depth of .520" on the .50 cal anyway, not sure on exacts of the .54 though Lyman will tell you if you call. 1:48 twist works well with PRB using between 65 and 85 gr of 2F; 50-75 3F but mine groups better with 2F. Only conical I could get to shoot in mine is the 320gr Lee REAL bullet and at that I need to use a 3/8" lubed fiber wad under it and no less than 120gr of 2F. With this load they'll cut holes at 50 yds and hold about 1.5" at 75 yds
