I wasn't sure whether to post this here because it is black powder and kind of a ml, or to put it in handguns. So I posted it here because this section looks like it has more action. I am trying to figure out what I actually have and whether it is usable and how, or if its a wallhanger. I have what I believe is a 1858 Remington copy. It is a black powder revolver with a brass frame, steel cylinder and barrel. On the barrel is printed "SM BALCK POWDER ONLY CAL.44 MADE IN ITALY". There is a serial number on the butt. On the bottem of the frame are some markings. There is a rough edged circle with a star in center, and a cup shape with maybe two rifles on an x with a circle in the top of the x. Any information about this weapon, or even who the manufacturer is would be very helpful. Thanks for your time. ks

Hi KS, Without anything but a number it is tough to identify. Maybe if you post the number, "x"ing out the last few digits someone could compare with their pistol of known manufacture. If the first few numbers match you may get lucky. There is probably a better site to do this than here as we are mostly long gunners. I have a couple of cap and ball revolvers that were made in Italy (1860 navy models). There were a whole lot of these things imported over the years and they were cheap so many were sold. They are a lot of fun to shoot but very messy. I plan on shooting mine with some 777 3f to see if the mess is less. Hope this helps, Palmer

Palmer, thanks for the ideas. I kind of thought that there might be forums for this, but did not really know where to look. The serial number runs E30468. Even I I don't find out who made it, I would still like to know how to shoot it. Anbody have any thoughts as to loading info? Any thougths as to what forums talk on these subjects. Thanks for your time. ks

Well I found a website the gave me some pretty good info on what I have and how to operate it. It seems to be a "full coverage" place like dougs, but is only more for black powder pistols. If anyone is interested I could give you the name. I don't know if I should openly post it as I don't know a lot about them, and how Doug handles listing other places. ks
