I'm getting back to basic I need a side lock gun for reenacting early 1800s and can trade/buy either a Thompson Center 50cal hawken flintlock , a CVA mountain(clean 1980s vintage) 50cal brown barrel #11 cap or a Traditions Tennessee 50cal flintlock all are in very good to great shape But what one is the best! All are about the same cost

If you are reenacting and want a gun that is more of a replica of the guns of the time the CVA MT, rifle would be the best, but likley most of these halfstock guns were in caplock, though flint versions are generaly acceptable in the 1830's if you do any earlier a fullstock rifle of some kind would be better, the traditiions are very generic for reenacting, your best bet would be the CVA and do a 1830ish time frame.

Yep, cva mountain rifle easily. I had 2 of them and they were both excellent shooters. Had a tc hawken and that sucker had such a tight bore. Nice rifle but just doesnt have the lines that the mountain rifle offers.
Plus the mountain rifles can come in 45,50,54 AND 58cal!
Deer Creek still carrys the mountain rifles. If someone could help him out with their phone number. I no longer have the manual with their #
