Which do you use when varmint hunting. Do you use a mouth call or an electronic call? I notice the electronic calls are getting better all the time. Cabela's now has a digital call which uses MP3 software. This should get their attention especially coyotes.

I use a wooden hand call. Found them to be far better than the plastic. I've used the electronic calls some but prefer to see the reaction of the game and give them what they want to hear. When all else fails to get them in close. I'll fold my finger and lick it to make it moist and suck. It makes a very good squeal and really brings in the foxes a runnin.

Tick. I recently got the Sceery Premium Outfitter Grade (Eastern Region)Trophy 3 call kit and a Sceery Double Barrel Howler along with Ed's video. They are plastic molded calls but got a pretty good tone as compared to the tape anyway. ;D All of the Sceery calls I looked at were plastic but they seem very sturdily molded. Was put onto the Sceery calls by a traapper I know.
I will keep my eye out for some wooden offerings too as i get drawn deeper into this mania. ;D

I'm sure sounds have improved through the years. I always like the Burnham Brothers calls made in wood. I would put a small split in the tip of the reed to make it a more gravelly sound. The squeeking of the knuckle would bring a hung-up red fox that last 150 to 200 yds.

I have a foxpro digital caller and a Johnny Steward tape type caller, The foxpro is easier to carry but you are limited to whatever is programmed onto the machine, whereas the tape type all you have to do is change the tape. I havent tried the remote type yet but suspect that would be better as you can sit up away from the caller, auctually the turkey call mouth diaphram has called in more fox and coyotes than either of them, but for crows the electronic callers are great.

I've been using a small electronic caller made by Casscreek Co. it works pretty well. I also use a yotebuster mouth call. I sometimes use both,to really get their attention. Ron S
