I have a 17 & 22-250 but thinking about a 204 to fit in the middle. Any light out there.

I would be very concerned about the .204 being affected by wind.

;D A friend of mine just bought a Savage LP in 204. It shoots .5 inch groups all day. With the 40 gr bullet wind is not any more trouble than 50 gr 22 cal. The bullet is devistating on Pdogs out to 300+ yds. He loves it.

The only thing I would be concerned about is this caliber being dropped in the future.
There have been other 20 caliber variants in the past, and all have faded with time.
I would hate to invest all that money in a new gun, then find out you can't find ammo or reloading components 10 years from now.

I looked a couple of these a few weeks ago. Nice rifle but the gun shop had no ammunition for it. Didn't have any die, brass or bullets. It sure would look good hanging on the wall though. Maybe they were sold out .

My little line-up of small calibers go from .17HMR - Tactical 20 - .22-250 - .25-06. Granted, the .17HMR can hardly be compared to the .17 Rem. The Tactical 20 (based on the .223 cartridge) is practically a twin sister to the Ruger .204 with nearly identical down-range ballistics. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with such a round, as long as the rifle is accurate. I have noticed less wind drift with the Tac 20 than with the .22-250, but wouldn't trade one way or another. Each of these rounds have a good use and are a pleasure to shoot. You can easily keep your scope on the target with the .204, especially using the 32gr pills. Believe it, there will be a void filled between the .17 and the .22-250 which you won't be totally aware of "til ya have one! ;D
I believe it will be a successful round. Ammo may be scarce now, but it was af first with the .17HMR. As more people get the rifles, the ammo factories will crank out more shootin' fodder.

Has anyone ever seen the damage caused by these bullets?
From what I have read they are the latest and greatest for varmints but I'd like to hear about entrance and exit wound size.
The Aug. 2004, American Rifleman magazine has some data on reloading and tells quite a bit about the cartridge. They say that unlike the .220 Swift the .204 will have less barrel wear due to improved powders. I have almost talked myself into buying one, now I just have to decide which make & model.
