My uncle had a case break off in his .243 bolt action rifle after he shot it and tried to extract it. The last 3/8 inch or so at the primer end came off. He said there is nothing to grab onto to remove it. Any thoughts on how to remedy the situation would be appreciated. Thanks

try taking a stainless steel brush on a cleaning rod, a little bigger than the case. And remove the bolt, run the brush into the chamber hard and twist. It should remove the broken case. Every once in a while my T/C does this and that is what I use. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to help my uncle get the case out. From the receiver end with a brass jag it caught the case lip and pulled the case out. It was not in there too tightly. A brass brush in a size slightly over the base size would have worked also I believe.

Jims, if you continue to experience this sort of problem you may want to have the head space checked. However it can also happen to brass that has been overloaded and is fatiqued. If this has occured with factoy ammo, then I would definitly recomend having head space checked. FYI. Lou

He had reloaded it too many times, the case was just worn out. Thanks

If he loads hot tell him to chuck the cases after the 6 th. loading. This will save him a lot of grief and be a lot safer to boot. ;D
