I was window shopping at my local gun shop and he had a SS synthetic thumbhole Howa 1500 in .243. I have been looking for a good heavy varmint barrel .243 and the price was right, but I know nothing of Howa and their accuracy potential. Anyone have experience with them?

A very good inexpensive action. I have had Weatherby Vanguard, S&W 1500, Howa, All use the same Japanese action and all shot MOA with the right loads.

The trigger on my 1500 is not a target trigger - I hear that they are adjustable, but not by bubba - I am a clutz when it comes to mechanical things. The rifle does just fine in the accuracy deptartment, and the cosmetic dept is fine too - good looking with the boyds stock they often use.
I give it a thumbs up for sure.

eoncoreguy I had a Howa in 243 that shot great with federal 100 bthp.
This rifle shot the first two bullets on top of each other and then put the third 3/8" to the right each and every time I shot a three shot group at 100 yds.
I worked for two weeks trying to get the creep out of the trigger. It was light and safe just had that slight creep in it.
I sold that rifle to a friend to fund another project with the understanding I could buy it back if I wanted it back later.
WEEELLLLL!!! when I realized I had made a mistake by selling the rifle and wanted it back he didnt want to part with it.
He had put another trigger in it and sanded on the stock releaving a slight pressure point. And it is now his best shooting rifle.
I wish I could live my life backwards, maybe I wouldnt mess up so much.
