I'm thinking of buying a new Savage 12FVSS with Accu-Trigger in 223 REM. I plan on useing it for yotes and chucks. What do you think of this gun?

Hey you guys,I dont have flees! I know you have opinions on such things. I'll give you a brief description of this gun in case you don't know what it is. 1. SS short action. 2. 26" varmint barrel. 3. 8.75 lbs. 4. 4rd. blind magazine. 5. Dual pillar bedded black synthetic stock.

I and probably some others are not ignoring your request but the only Savage I currently own is a 10ML-II. My .223 is a Ruger M-77, Mark II. So I can’t really comment here about the Savage Model. My shooting and reloading experience with a .223 is solely associated with the Ruger for this caliber.

I picked up my new Savage yesterday! ;D It sure was thoughtful of my wife to get it for me for Valentines Day. LOL I mounted a Swift 4.4-14X44 Mil-Dot Premier scope on it. I'm waiting on my PACT electronic measure and scale to be fixed and returned so I can try some loads in it. I might have to go buy some rounds if it takes too long as I'm very anxious to shoot it. Will keep you posted as how it shoots. CJP

I'd like to know how you make out. I am considering picking up a .223 in the spring as a yote gun .
I've got a .17 HMR now that I use, but I limit my shots to 100 yards and I let a lot of coyotes walk because of it. I would like to have a 223 handy to reach out and touch 'em.
Keep us posted!

The .223 is an excellence round for jackrabbits, groundhogs and coyotes with a 55gr Nosler Ballistic tip. The Ruger I own has had a bedding job done and with some tailored loads easily holds a 5/8” group at a hundred. This is one sweet caliber for smaller sized game than deer out to 250yds. If you reload like I do you might want to try military cases as mine prefers them over others for best possible groups. This caliber is fun to shoot without ripping a hole in your wallet. The other ingredient for small groups in my case are bench rest primers and I use CCI BR-4. You'll have fun with this caliber both at the range and a field. Ed
