I have never successfully rattled or grunted up a buck. Yet I see this happen all the time on the hunting videos. Any body know the secret? What do you use? How do you use it? When is the right time? How often does it work? I have rattled and grunted my brains out and all I have called up are other hunters. Any advice or opinions will be readily accepted.

Predator, I'll give you my humble opinion having spent considerable time rattling and grunting in average places with considerable hunting presure. I have rattled the same SMALL buck up several times in the same day. I have rattled spikes, 4 pointers and does (most likely button Bucks) but have yet to see anything I would call a trophey come to the horns. I have taken one decent Buck using a grunter and he was glued to a doe. She was in the clear however he was hung up in some thick stuff. One grunt brought him out like a charging bull. I have also grunted to change the direction of moving Does or stopped them in their tracks . Again IMHO, I leave the horns at home and I take a grunter every trip to the woods. Use it when it makes sense not randomly grunting hoping something will show. I believe you will see more seer setting quitley than trying to trick them into showing up. Packdog

Packdog, at this point in time I have to agree with you I have seen and killed a number of deer just by sitting quietly whether sitting on the ground or in a stand. I have grunted at bucks while they were trailing does with no effect. Also have gotten does to stop but not approach. Rattlin horns has never had any resultsfor me either.

Predator II, I never rattled but have used the Knight & Hale EZ Grunter with some success. I have found that the less I call the better though. Think some guys over do it. Early ML Season I have used a softer tending type grunt which is a curiosity call to bring any deer in. Later near and in rut a deeper grunt works better. It aint an answer to success always but sometimes when conditions are right it can help. Years ago I bought one of Jerry Peterson's Deer calling tapes and it was outstanding. He now has a video now that I hear is really good. Good price too. Dont think they have the audiotape anymore. www.woodswise.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?usr=4158662&rnd=1837160&pg=store&sub_pg=prod&ref=107
