Here it is Wed. of opening week and all I can say is that season is not going anything like I had planned. It has not been all bad. I have seen 25 or 26 deer 8 of them were bucks.
Here are the problems I have had so far I have missed 2 deer. Trying to punch holes thru brush that was way too thick for hot loads from a 10ML.
I spent a few hours in the emergency room opening day getting staples put in the back of my head where the Warn quick release scope rings hit me in the head when I fell I also destroyed the scope base on my Contender when it fell out of the holster while I was tumbling down a large hill after the large rock I was standing on at the top of the hill gave away.
I saw the buck I was after, but he only has 1 antler rite now so I could not bring myself to take the 40 yard wide open shot that I had
Came home to get cleaned up last night, and forgot my check book here at home so when I headed out for my morning hunt I did not have my hunting license.
WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG

Thank God that you were not killed or injured severely.

HTR Thankfully you weren't seriously injured or worse. Maybe you need to change your hunting area or something. I know when I've had difficult times, I'd go to different area and it would make all the difference.

I wasted one of my doe tags today. Thaught I would have another nice young doe for me to eat on. That would be my 2nd yound deer this year because I got one with the bow. I was kinda in a hurry when I dressed her, and realy did not look her over at all. I saw that she had been shot low in a front leg with a slug, but it looked fresh so I did not wory about that. After dressing her I went and checked her in then went to a meeting I had to be at. After the meeting I actualy looked her over good and found another hole that apeared to be a few days older. We started skinning her anyway after I came home and she was a nasty mess. The hole that I did not notice until after I used my tag was a high shot in the chest that did not hit any ribs or vitals It was all infected in her shoulders so we cut the hind legs and cut about 1/2 the loins off her and threw the rest away because it was trash. By law I would have had to use a tag on her anyway, but I would have probably not tagged her if I saw the shape that she was in instead of getting in a hurry like I did. The funny thing is everything except the broken leg, and my shot to her neck looked OK when I field dressed her. I have 3 doe tags and a buck tag left for regular season, 1 bow tag, and 1 muzzel loader tag left and have told 4 people that I would give them a deer. I just hope that I can fill that many more tags with the bad luck I am having.

You are all correct i should be thankful that I am still up and walking around instead of lying in a hospital bed or a casket...
