The good news is that I just recieved notification that I'm scheduled for back surgery near the end of October. Some might question what makes me think that is good news. Well, although I don't look forward to undergoing surgery, I'll get relief from the pain I've had in my legs for the past several years and will be able to get around better and be pain free. Now the bad news . it's right in the middle of deer season. Don't know what the recovery time will be and might be able to salvage some of the deer season, especially the mulie season where I wanted to test my new 300 WSM. We'll see.

Good luck with your surgery RAF. They have improved surgury so much in the last few years the recovery time has been cut considerably. If you are free of pain then surely someone will be able to assist you to a blind and take care of the deer once it is shot. I have had to adjust to so many physical ailments that half the fun is arranging for others to take care of me. I am told that I have it all prepaid long ago. If it makes others feel good to take care of the old man then why deprive them of joy?

Take it from someone who has been threw several back surgeries and have micro surgery done. Its less evasive and you heal faster. Mine were done several years ago and now I have trouble with scar tissue grown around the main nerve in my back. It causes constant leg pain. They cant remove the scare tissue because it will grow back worse than it is. Hope everything works out for you. mike

I just got back from the hospital where I underwent and surgical assessment. Talk about waisted time. Most of the time I just sat and waited. All the things done and checked could have been done in under an hour. As it was I was there for 4 & 1/2 hours. My own doctor did most of what they needed last week, but they did it over. Surgery is a week from today at 1045 am but I have to be there at 0745. More waiting .

I feel everything will go fine for you RAF. Once I sit for three hours with severe back pain and when I finally got in to see a Doctor he first thought I wanted to be excused from a Viet Nam assignment. He turned from tough to soft in short order after being told bluntly that I was not there for his opinion but meerly to get something for pain. He then sent me straight to a General Hospital where I took up residence for two months. I now understand his original mood because most all those ahead of me were trying to avoid a bad tour. Back pain can get so severe that you just can't be civil with anyone feeding you bull. Get back to pain free soon and please let us know how it goes. GL, Ben.

I should state that the incision is healing nicely and no sign of infection. I think there is still some post operative swelling and still have a little numbness in my left foot but hope as the healing process continues, it will go away. Right now the plans are to get out this weekend. There are some deer out there with my name on them and the new 300 WSM is eager to show me what it can do

I can tell you that my hunting buddy is eager to get out. I haven't been out for a month now and in the interim he's been shooting deer. He can't hunt but told me that he'll make sure I don't over do it and we'll get the deer loaded .

Well, I've was out Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Deer seen are way down. The mulie bucks have the does hidden somewhere and haven't figured it out yet. Have another week for the bucks. Rut hasn't kicked in yet but should soon. As far as does goes have 4 weeks to get 2 mulie does and in a week the white tail season starts up again and have 3 weeks for that. Hopefully things will change soon.
