Last couple of weeks I was looking for that big buck and he has failed to show up. Practically everyone else in camp got one and they have carefully tiptoed around me.
Started looking for a fat doe for the freezer and all of a sudden all of the deer disappeared! Was seeing several does every day and now all I can see is spikes and this year's tiny yearlings! Not even seeing them on trail cam at night at the feeder. Previously got 20 to 50 pictures per night and now nada!
Savage needs to harvest some meat to pay for its keep!

Feeder activity here in NE AR is almost nothing. The deer are really moving though. I have seen very few big deer so far. I suspect that our best chance at really big deer will be mid-Dec or later.

It is called the lock-down period of the rut. The buck is keeping his does on a tight leash waiting for them to come in.

I have been through those dry periods several times. They will be back and you will meet. Good hunting, Ben

Well, I am back home for a couple nights so when I get back on Friday perhaps by then they will be running the range again. As I remember, they did something like this down there last year also. Its just kinda amazing that nobody is seeing any down there right now. Makes you wonder where they could go.

bring "ye old savage" out here to east TN. I watched 8 does this evening in the plot and 4 yesterday evening in the yard, big daddy never showed, no bucks at all. some were full size and some looked more like coyotes, take your pick, just don't tell the state (it's still sacreligious to kill a doe out here, don't think I didn't want to or that they don't need thinning). the earliset I've seen movement since it became day at night thanks to the moon was at 5:15 this evening. the last few days it's been no earlier than 5:30, man I wish the volunteer state (of depression) would set me and my savage free!!!! hang in there, it's gotta get better. how far from the river are ya?
