Wow, my brother recommended trying the Barnes bullets this year.I don't have extensive ML experience but have shot a few deer with my TC Encore.I had used the Hornady bullets until last week. With 100grs of Goex fffg, and a set cleaning pattern , I was able to group them 1 1/4" at 100 yds.Good enough for now, time to go hunting. I shot 2 does last week, 1 quartering to me at 40 yds, the other broadside at 80yds. Neither deer took a step!! I cant believe the performance of these bullets !! Got another tag to fill so will try to go 3 for 3. Is this common for the "magic copper whopper" or just a fluke?? I'm completely sold for now and will post my results from next week.

These are excellent bullets. However there is no magic involved when you place them perfectly. My bet is that both bullets went through and penetrated vitals in between. That is the goal of these bullets.
Do not be surprised that a deer might go a ways (less then 100 yds) on a great shot placement unless big bone structure/spine is hit.
Good luck on #3

Report time..
Got my last deer of the season, thought it was a 1 1/2 doe, but turned out to be a big button buck.I dont shoot those if I can help it, but the land owner wanted the deer "thinned out some"....
60 yards broadside, right through both shoulders, took out the top of the heart, deer went...
you guessed it ! nowhere!! 3 deer this year and not one of them took a step. Amazing.....plan on fine tuning my load later for next season , maybe get my groups a little tighter with powder grain adjustment, but ain't no way I'm changing bullets !!

I just noticed that you are using FFFg BP. I don't see many people using this as most use FFg. I had excellent results with FFFg in my Knight Disc .50 cal in upper end doses and Nosler 250 gr Partition handgun bullets. I could push them about 100-150 fps faster then with FFg. In my .54 Thunderhawk I could never get FFFg to produce consistent accuracy.
I always found it easier to find accuracy with FFg. There are 2 teenagers in our camp that have "inherited" our Knight Discs after we switched to Savages. They both shoot the same load of 120 FFg Goex BP. One guy shoots the 300 XTP Mag and the other uses the 300 gr SST. In both guns it is an MOA load. These 2 boys shot 5-6 deer this year. Only 1 bullet recovered...after it passed through an 8 pt buck and stuck in a tree behind the deer.
Good luck tuning that 290 TMZ....1 1/4" sounds pretty tuned up already! You can hunt anything from deer to moose with that bullet.
