I use Chambers Siler locks almost all the time and have yet to have any trouble out of them save one which I broke the main spring in when I put the lock back together after I finished it. He replaced the spring free of charge. I also think the Siler locks are the easiest on flints "out of the box".

I have used L & R in percussion and have an L & R flint for a rifle I am going to build. I have had no problems with the percussion lock-and it has been used a lot.

about anyone's caplock will snap a cap. I will use no other lock than Chambers. ;D They spark well right out of the box.. L & R flintlocks just may work, after 40 hrs of tuning. This has been my personal experience.

Hello all! ;D
My choice since 1971 has been the H&A Underhammer Box Lock. Very basic, and gets the job done everytime.

Dear Matt: Please advise where you go to get the H&A underhammer boxlock. Thank you. Woodbutcher

I've used Siler and L&R both. I only do flintlocks. I still tear them all down and high polish all the bearing areas and graphite them. The only time I have a sparking problem, it's from me not checking the English flints for dullness between shots. But, that probably comes due to 2-300 shots with no problems causing my complacency.

Well, if you get bored, I have a pair of L&R locks that have been polished and finished and are good for about 8-9 shots before they need to be knapped or something. After a Chambers lock, you will be spoiled and if given a choice as to style, Chambers is the one to buy. IMO

I make my own actions, but use H@A parts!
