Sent off on guns america and bought me a 740 Rem in 30-06. Got the rifle and had to put a firing pin and an action spring in it. It is a beater that will go to Wisconsin to stay at my son's house for me to use when I go up there to hunt with him. I shot this rifle yesterday at a 50 yard range and it went into 7/8 inch with 150 gr. Remington factory loads. Then I shot a reload of 46 grains of 4895 and the Remington 165 Coreloct bullet. It went into 1/2 inch. Anybody shooting the Remington semiauto with 180 gr. or heavier bullets? I am looking for a proven load with a heavier bullet.

Up here in WI. the 740 is a very popular rifle 90% of shooters use 180 grain bullets. mostly new cartridges Federal premium is very popular and shoots well Up here long shots are not common. Reloads do not work well in a Auto especially if its real cold or snowing. If you do reload get a die for an autoloader. The idea for an auto is for quick follow up shots and for that its hard to beat a rattlin' Remington Redclub
